Enrichment

At Barrow Hedges Primary School our vision, "Every Child Thriving, Every Day" and our motto, "Roots to Grow, Wings to Fly," underpin our approach to enrichment and personal development. We believe that every child deserves access to a rich range of experiences that enable them to thrive academically, socially, emotionally and culturally, whilst developing the confidence and aspiration to succeed in the future.

Our enrichment offer is strategically planned through our Pupil Charter, which sets out the experiences, opportunities and achievements that every child is entitled to during their time at Barrow Hedges. The charter ensures equity of access and guarantees that all pupils benefit from a broad and balanced range of opportunities regardless of background or circumstance. These include learning a musical instrument, participating in performances and debates, attending residential visits, engaging with arts and culture, representing the school, contributing to the community, celebrating individual talents, taking part in sporting competitions and experiencing outdoor learning.

Aligned with the Department for Education Enrichment Framework and our school improvement priorities, the charter provides children with strong roots through belonging, citizenship, cultural understanding and community engagement, while giving them wings to fly through leadership opportunities, performance, creativity, challenge and aspiration. Opportunities such as  whole-class instrumental tuition, residential experiences, leadership representation, community performances and charitable initiatives exemplify our commitment to developing the whole child.

Pupil voice, participation data and ongoing evaluation enable leaders and governors to review the impact of enrichment and ensure that opportunities remain high quality, inclusive and accessible to all. Through our Pupil Charter, we make our vision a reality by ensuring every child has the experiences, knowledge and opportunities needed to thrive every day, developing the roots to grow into confident, compassionate individuals and the wings to fly towards future success.
