The Enchanted Woodland - Summer 1In this section...
As part of our topic we learn about 'Plants' (Science). We use our school grounds to locate and observe different plants, particularly focusing on their different parts and whether they are evergreen or deciduous. As we find out more about different plants, we learn how to identify them using their flowers and leaves to help us.
We also extend our knowledge of the world by using our mapping skills to help us find out about the local area. We learn to find physical and human features and draw simple maps and routes. We add symbols to help us find different places. We then use this knowledge to create our own fantasy maps linked to our topic theme 'Enchanted Garden'.
Our 'Enchanted Garden' theme is also used in Computing and Art where we use collage and IT to create illustrations for an e-book.
RE focuses on Islam and we learn about what Muslims believe and know why the Qur'an is important to them.
The Music skills we develop over this half term are to create our own lyrics using existing songs to help us.
In Dance (PE) we use our theme to create fairy dances using imoves. We also play different striking and fielding games to improve our skills in hitting, stopping, catching and throwing a ball.
During this half term in PHSE we explore the theme 'Relationships' by thinking about the people who are special to us and what it means to be a good friend. We also learn why it is important that only responsible adults can give us medicine.
