Potions - Autumn 2

In this section...

To launch our Potions topic, we take part in a very exciting Science day! We have the opportunity to carry out lots of fun and engaging experiments throughout the day, whilst discussing and creating various 'Big Questions' which we continue to investigate throughout the topic. 

We learn about solids, liquids and gases, and explore how all materials around us can be classified into these three states of matter. We explore these further by planning and carrying out lots of fascinating investigations, including 'Wacky Races' where we learn about viscosity and 'Chocolate Hearts'. We also learn about changes of state: evaporation, condensation and freezing and make our very own model of a working water cycle! 

In our English lessons, we read Alice in Wonderland and learn how to write a descriptive label for Alice's 'Drink Me' potion. We also write magical fantasy narratives and a potions poem, where we learn about collective nouns. In addition to this, we have the opportunity to show off all the wonderful things we have learnt in our topic lessons when we write a non-chronological report about solids, liquids and gases.

In Computing we look at HTML, understand tags and create pages using the HTML code. We also think about the risks when publishing websites.

We continue with our French where we learn about pets, body parts and perform a song for our Christmas production.

In Music we prepare for our Christmas performance and PE lessons comprise of Swimming and Football.

Christianity is studied in RE and we look at wht rites of passage are important in the life of a Christian and how Christmas is celebrated around the world.

During this half term in PHSE we explore the theme 'Getting on and Falling Out'. We consider the skills needed to make an effective friendship, recognise the feelings of anger and how to manage conflicts with friends. We explore bullying and the reasons why this might occur and look at ways of helping those who bully and are bullied.
