Frozen Kingdom - Autumn 2In this section...
Our second topic of the Autumn term is Frozen Kingdom, which begins with the classrooms being transformed into a Frozen Kingdom. We take part in a range of snow-based team-building activities, including making edible Igloos!
During this topic, we learn about the differences between the Arctic and Antarctica, how animals adapt to live in their habitat and about how a range of Arctic animals can be classified in different ways. We use all our knowledge to design and plan content for a magazine in Computing. We compare water availability between Kenya, the UK and the polar regions and discover the importance of frozen water in these regions to sustaining animal life. Our Science learning is closely linked as we group and classify animals. In Science we also study trees and flowering plants and decide what impacts the bee and butterfly population.
In Art, we create pieces of work inspired by underwater creatures, combining a range of watercolour skills.
In English we produce some fantastic work, including haiku poetry, newspaper reports about the devastating weather change in Arendelle and narratives based on the story of 'The Bear who had never seen Christmas'.
PE comprises of Gymnastics, Rugby and Digital Leadership and in French we talk with greater confidence about daily activities.
As part of our PHSE curriculum, we study the theme 'Getting On and Falling Out' where we focus on differences and how to deal with them, considering others' points of view and how to manage conflicting emotions.
In RE we focus on Christianity, understanding how special moments in people's live are marked and celebrated. As we draw closer to Christmas we reflect on what Christmas spirit means to us.
