Meet the Governors
Who are School Governors?
The Governing Body at Barrow Hedges Primary School consists of members of the local and school community. It works closely with Mrs Toulson and the Leadership Group to oversee the strategic direction of the school. It does this by offering support, constructive advice, a sounding board for ideas, and help where needed. It challenges, asks questions and seeks information to ensure that the best interests of the children at Barrow Hedges are maintained.
All of the governors listed below act on a voluntary basis. Some are appointed by the Local Education Authority (LA), some elected by parents, some by teachers/staff and some are co-opted by the governors from the local community.

What do they do?
The role of the Governing Body is a strategic one. Its key functions are to:
The Headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework established by the governing body.
All of our Governors are members of sub-committees which deal with specific issues relating to Personnel, the Curriculum and Pupils, Premises and Finance. These committees meet regularly and feed back to the full governing body which meets once a term.
The non-teaching governors often visit the school and some governors undertake to support certain subject areas as link governors and liaise with the member of staff who co-ordinates that area.
