Supporting the School Community
The Barrow Hedges Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has a long history of active support – raising thousands of pounds each year to provide a wide variety of complementary equipment and activities, benefiting every child in the school community. This can include extra trips, sports kit, equipment for the classrooms, support for the annual creativity week, fund visiting theatre companies, etc. The PTA is a registered charity and qualifies for Gift Aid on donations.
Who is a member of the PTA?
You are! Every parent, guardian and member of staff is a member of the PTA at Barrow Hedges. However, there is a committee which organises events and provides services (for example, uniform sales) to the school. The committee is made up of nominated parents , teacher representatives and Mrs Toulson, Head Teacher, who is the chair of the committee. Any parent or teacher can put themselves forward for nomination at the AGM which is normally held in September.
What does the PTA do?
The PTA acts as a focal point for fund-raising activity at the school, welcoming all parents as members. The year’s main events, the children’s Christmas Bazaar, the Christmas Dance and the School Summer Fair, are always popular features in the school calendar.
Other events during the year depend on suggestions and support from parents and the school and have included:
• Quiz Nights
• Children’s Discos
• An Easter Egg Roll
• Sponsored Events
You will be informed of these events through the regular PTA newsletter or flyers for special occasions. We also raise money through various other means – 150 Club, raffles, sponsored events, etc.
